Bible Study

Bible Study is a weekly verse-by-verse study through the whole Bible in the life and mind of the Orthodox Church.

Bible Study at St. Paul is a recurring verse-by-verse study of Scripture, read within the life, worship, and tradition of the Orthodox Church.

What We Study

Bible Study is a long-term journey through the Scriptures. The study may focus on a single book, a group of related passages, a major biblical theme, or the relationship between the Old and New Testaments. Whatever the specific text, the goal is to encounter Christ in the Word of God and learn how Scripture forms the life of the Church.

When We Meet

Bible Study meets regularly for teaching, discussion, prayerful reflection, and fellowship. Please check the church calendar and weekly announcements for the current day, time, and any seasonal changes.

How We Study

The goal is not only to learn biblical facts, but to understand Scripture as the Church receives, prays, interprets, and lives it. Studies are taught with attention to the text itself, the surrounding biblical context, Orthodox doctrine, liturgical life, the fathers of the Church, and practical spiritual application.

  • Verse-by-verse study through books and passages of the Bible.
  • Background on historical setting, authorship, themes, and structure.
  • Connections between the Old Testament, New Testament, and Church worship.
  • Discussion of difficult passages and common questions.
  • Practical application for prayer, repentance, family life, service, and discipleship.

A Long-Term Journey Through Scripture

Over time, Bible Study works through the whole Bible: the Law, historical books, wisdom literature, prophets, Gospels, Acts, Pauline epistles, catholic epistles, Revelation, and the deuterocanonical books received in the Orthodox tradition.

Who This Is For

Everyone is welcome: longtime members, new families, catechumens, youth, servants, and anyone who wants to understand Scripture more deeply in the Orthodox Church. You do not need to have attended previous sessions to come.
